Home ... Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Fund
The Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Fund was established at the El Dorado Community Foundation in 1999. The Community Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, that serves El Dorado County, CA with a mission dedicated to strengthening our commmunity both now and for future generations.
The mission of The Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Fund is to increase awareness and education about breast cancer, and to provide scholarships to high school seniors who have experienced a cancer diagnosis in a member of their immediate family.
The first part of our mission is accomplished by providing grants to local organizations with programs to help women access breast exams and mammograms. We distribute educational materials at local health fairs and community events, including references and follow up information. We began our "Baskets of Hope" program in 2007, distributing gift baskets filled with informational and educational materials as well as personal items, for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. This program has been very well recieved by the reciepients.
Treatment for cancer can be very disruptive to family life and the reality of losing a loved one to can be devastating. The Pink Ribbon scholarships are intended to not only ease the financial burden college can put on a struggling family, but to give these students an outlet for their feelings and emotions. Each applicant will submit an essasy describing the lessons that they have learned from their family members battle with cancer.
